Inexplicably, often considered by people who should know better the best book of the last 25 years. It no doubt owes its fame to the timing of the books release coming in 2003 early in the war on terror and its subject matter of Afghanistan and America.
It is a shallower book than it thinks it is. It's a Spielbergian book and emotionally manipulative. It is trying to say something deep, but it isn't and you can't even fall back into the prose which is workman like. Substantially overrated.
It made me shake my head when I was reading it.
