I was not a fan of this book. It does show literary skill, but I didn't care about any of the characters and the disparate elements of the book did not come together in a coherent whole for me.
I'm not sure that literature professors should write fiction. It all becomes very literary and game playing. She does show a remarkable ability to take on different voices, but I did not care for those voices.
I had to grind my way through the book and read two different books during the course of it, just to break it up. This book was emotionally scarring due to its boringness. Not quite bad enough for one star, but close.
