Lovecraft's Tales

H.P. Lovecraft: Tales (Library of America) - H.P. Lovecraft, Peter Straub

This is a good collection of Lovecraft's works/ I had read most of it before and only a few stories, most notably Charles Dexter Ward and Herbert West: Reanimator were new to me.

My own feeling is that Lovecraft is one of the greatest writers of Pulp in history. In some sense he continually wrote the same story over and over again and the similarities between his stories are more striking than the differences.

In my opinion the best stories here are The Rats in the Walls and The Colour out of Space. Lovecraft is at his best, when the stories are the bleakest.

Well worth reading and this is a strong anthology.
