The BFG is a pretty good children's book. I personally found the BFG's language somewhat annoying at first, and it also takes awhile for the book to take off. However, the latter half of the book is considerably better than the former part of the book. Dahl is obviously one of the greatest children's writers of all time, and this book is well worth reading, although it is not amongst the very best of his work. What is always so remarkable about Dahl, is that he can deal with very dark subjects and themes in this way which is charming and entirely appropriate for children
