Julian Meynell's Books

I like Books.

Moby-Dick; or, The Whale

Moby-Dick; or, The Whale - Herman Melville, Andrew Delbanco, Tom Quirk When I first read Moby Dick about 15 years ago I enjoyed it, but thought that it was overrated and overwritten. The book has however grown in my memory and continues to haunt me. There is some weird magic in all the chapters that are essays on whales and whaling that punctuate the book. Easily the best pre-20th century book by an American.

It is totally weird though. It's strangeness is part of its charm.
