This was the work that basically got Hemingway the Nobel prize and restored his reputation. It is more widely read than any other of Hemingway's novels. That's all a bit unfortunate, because at this point in time I've read four of his novels and I rate the other three higher.
This book is good, but it is not totally amazing, like several of his other books. He at times falls into writing as if he is writing a highly sophisticated copy of a Hemingway novel. The subtlety of the other works is not there. Good but don't judge Hemingway's abilities from this work. Lovely images though.
