This is a clever novella. It is about a murder that everyone knows is going to happen in a small town and that no one does anything to stop. As the narrative continues, it becomes obvious that the murders do not want to actually commit the murder, but are doing it only out of a misguided sense of honour and that the wrong that they are avenging was not actually committed by the murder victim.
The story is of course well written and clever. It examines collective guilt and to some degree fate. It's good, but not nearly as good as Garcis Marquez's two more famous novels. Well worth reading though.
